ENVISION Festival 2017

Work Performed with Mars Design

Client Background

Envision is a transformational festival in Costa Rica that attracts thousands of people from different cultures to co-exist and inspire one another through art, spirituality, yoga, music, dance, performance, education, and nature.

Looking to revitalize their web presence, Envision asked Mars Design to create a website where customers can easily find the information they’re looking while being inspired by the ethos that defines Envision.

Process

  1. Research & Learn - Who are the users? What is Envision? What are the goals?
  2. Collaborate and build relationships - stakeholders and design team
  3. Create early low-fi designs - keep everyone in the loop, to prevent big surprises
  4. Iterate and prototype
  5. Finalize iterations
  6. Support implementation

What was I asked to do?

  • Apply a user centered design approach to the project
  • Information Architecture
  • Competitive Analysis
  • Sketch & Wireframe
  • Rapid Prototyping
  • Keep stakeholders happy

Research

I needed to understand Envision and what their users need from their website. When working with a client, one has to be flexible with what the client can afford. In this case, there were no resources allocated for to user research, so we relied on three things:

  1. Stakeholder interviews
  2. Competitive analysis
  3. Heuristics - best practices

Research Outcomes

  • Users #1 pain point was confusing navigation and overwhelming amount of content.
  • Most users were between 25-35 yrs old, festival goers, tech savvy, and international.
  • Users tended to look for the music lineup page first.
  • Top priority pages were lineup, ticketing, FAQs.
